Recently I was given a California redwood seedling! What a treasure! Now I just have to figure out where to plant it. Redwoods are naturally resistant to insects, fungi, and fire because they are high in tannin and do not produce resin or pitch. In ideal growing conditions they can grow 2-3 feet a year.

Their trunks can grow more than 27 feet wide, about eight paces by an average adult person! Even more incredible: These trees can live for more than 2,000 years. Some coast redwoods living today were alive during the time of the Roman Empire."
If only I could time travel to 2123 to see who will be sitting under this magnificent tree.
