Garry Oaks - Quercus garryana

Recently I took a course on trees by a very passionate tree lady who lives in Errington, Lynne Brooks. She mentioned that she had about sixty garry oaks she had grown from acorns she was given, that she wanted to donate to NALT, the Nanaimo and Lands Trust, a native plant nursery south of Cedar near the airport. I offered to help transport them to the nursery, which we did, on a very hot Friday afternoon in the end of May. She was generous enough to offer me a couple of garry oaks, as well as several large bushes including a ninebark shrub and a native crabapple that is over 6 feet tall. While there we both had fun picking up a few more plants. I got some camas and a chocolate lily as well as an Osoberry or Oregon plum (Oemleria cerasiformis).
