The Pond

There is one big advantage of a rocky landscape - lots of big rocks to build a pond and rock wall with. I already had a natural hollow near my little flower bed, partially lined with beautiful big rocks. So with the help of my neighbours Gary and Dan, and a small bobcat, we moved and cajoled the rocks into place. I lined the hole with a piece of old carpet, and then put down the pond liner. The whole thing came together quite quickly, as I was motivated to finish it before my son Alex and his wife Jamie arrived for their first visit to my new home. This week, I decided to improve on it, and cleaned out the debris from the bottom, and added additional rocks, with the help of Bob for the biggest and heaviest ones. As soon as I was finished, an irridescent dragonfly dropped by. Soon I will add a pump so the water will be cleaner, and next spring possibly add a few goldfish and pond plants.
Although I had a birdbath in the garden, the birds prefer to bathe and cool off in the pond. The other day a pileated woodpecker took a bath, but left before I could take a picture.
